1. On Saturday, I will be singing with the Laurier Boring Ensemble. I mean, the Laurier Baroque Ensemble. I’m singing a big aria with cello and harpsichord. This concert is probably going to be boring, but I’m second on the program, so, if you come to hear me, you can probably sneak out at intermission.
Oh, and there will be added bonus entertainment! My parents are coming so you’ll get to see how much I look like my dad and thus will have reason to make fun of me for the rest of my life.
2. Dearest Amy of Nightjar Books and I are organizing a concert as a project for our Women and Social Justice class. It’s supposed to be a women in music kind of thing, but will be completely unlike Lilith Fair (yuck, yuck, yuck), and there will be no sad songs about being sad sung by sad people. Instead there will be an indie rock explosion called Agile Like This, some nifty cello and piano and harp and voice music, some poetry, some cookies and I might sing a song about cowgirls. It’s all going down on Friday, November 17th at 8:00 in Room 318 in the Aird Building at Laurier. Admission is by donation, and the proceeds are going to a group that I’ve forgotten the name of who are fundraising and working with a women’s collective in Senegal to establish a store in a rural community so that women have access to basic supplies for things like, you know, living.
