Xandra is a Canadian writer, teacher, and scholar, currently living and working in Los Angeles. She enjoys 50′s diners, vintage dresses, coffee, 60′s bikini movies, playing the ukulele, and reading Dorothy Parker, and when she’s not haphazardly adventuring around the city, she is hard at work on a doctorate in musicology. Xandra secretly wishes she had hair like Dusty Springfield.

Grew up with Meta Given recipes, quite entertained with your meatloaf / avocado mousse dinner. Do you know anything about Meta, can’t seem to find any bio whatsoever. She must be old as dirt if her first book was 1943?

Hi Michelle – glad you enjoyed my meatloaf adventure!
I haven’t been able to track down much biographical information about Meta either, but there is an article from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that gives a bit of information: http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/09099/961476-34.stm
If you’re ever in New York, I recommend stopping by Bonnie Slotnick’s cookbooks – she has a whole shelf devoted to Meta Given!
